About Me and Testimonials

Jennifer Banks holding Canon camera standing in field

Hi there, I'm Jennifer!

My love for photography happened years ago starting way back in the film days. I documented meaningful parts of my life from family, friends, travel, and nature, you name it. Yes, it was a hobby.

Dad built a darkroom in the house.  Developing our own black and white film and creating prints was a ton of fun, especially sharing that time with him. How lucky was I!

In the mid-1990s I took a Slide Photography class at New England School of Photography in Boston. I shot on an old Minolta SLR body and I was hooked. That Minolta went with me when I served in both the Massachusetts Army National Guard (part-time) and Active Duty Navy (full-time) traveling around New England, Europe, and Asia. And I shot with that same Minolta during my thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2003. Yup, all 2,172.6 miles!

I am now using fully digital Sony and Canon cameras. A common phrase said to me often back then and today is, “you take beautiful photos.” I carried and shot with a small Sony digital camera while hiking the entire Pacific Crest Trail between 2018-2019 (2,650 miles, I know, that's a lot of miles) and half of the Continental Divide Trail in 2022 (1,600 miles). Yes, long-distance hiking has been another passion of mine.  Other hikers could not believe I was carrying "all that extra weight" compared to just using my cell phone camera.  My answer was and still is, "larger sensor size for more information and better image quality, especially for prints."  A common question is, "what is the best camera to use?" And the answer is, "the one in your hand." Yes, cell phone cameras have their place and have come a long way, but, when quality becomes a priority, a full size camera wins, hands down.

Some of my other photography education includes editing in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, landscape photography, family photography, and newborn photography.  The learning is endless.  I love to learn new techniques, skills, lighting, poses… the list goes on and on.

I believe in capturing the love and connection of your families and newborns. I believe in the importance of family photography. I look back at the family photos my parents took when I was young and they are absolute treasures. My photography sessions are relaxed and fun. If you have little ones, be ready to play and snuggle, with lots of hugs and kisses.

Photography is an art form and I love creating beautiful photos.

I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist since 2008 and work part-time.

I am married to my wonderful husband, Steve. We love outdoor activities, especially kayaking, camping, and hiking.  In June 2024 we adopted 2 highly bonded, super lovable kittens, brothers, Cheddar and Brie.

Testimonials

"Jennifer was amazing to work with. I knew I wanted to book a photo session for my newborn but was a little hesitant as it can be challenging to commit to plans with a newborn! My husband, baby and I had just moved to a new home weeks prior so I felt that the house was not ready for a photoshoot. However, Jennifer immediately put us at ease. She took lots of photos outside of our home and then picked the rooms inside that had the best light. She was very versatile depending on when the baby was fussy, needed to feed, etc. Overall I'm very happy we went with Jennifer. Her photos came out very natural, creative, and beautiful. Thank you, Jennifer!"

"My original concern about scheduling a newborn session was that I didn’t know if I would be comfortable doing one after just giving birth. Having a newborn can be unpredictable so I was hesitant to book something in advance and not know how I would feel or how the baby would act. The thought of driving to a new location with a baby who was only days old seemed intimidating. However, Jennifer came to our home and provided us with a wonderful experience. I’m so happy we decided to go ahead with the session!

I loved the idea of an in-home photo session to allow us to be in a comfortable and safe environment for my newborn. It was a relief to be at home where I had everything I needed for her. The session with Jennifer was stress free and she allowed us and our baby to do whatever we felt was comfortable and take breaks in between as needed.

During the photo session I felt completely at ease. Jennifer made my husband and I feel comfortable and was open to having the baby lead the photos based on her temperament. She guided us with different poses that were safe and adorable at the same time. We loved how we got to be included in the photos and take them around our home and even our dog got to be included! It made me feel relieved that Jennifer kept checking in on our baby to make sure her needs were met and she wasn’t cold or upset. After the session I felt happy and excited to see the photos and was overjoyed with how great the photos turned out!

We would 100% recommend using Jennifer for your newborn session! She is professional, extremely patient and you can tell she cares about her clients. She took the time to get to know us and our baby and was calm when dealing with a newborn. You can tell that Jennifer takes pride in her work and utilizes the best lighting and angles to get the perfect shot. We cannot wait to use Jennifer in the future for more family photos!"

"Jennifer was great to work with. She made our 2 and 5 year old very comfortable. I was concerned about my children's short attention span for an hour long photo shoot but Jennifer made it really fun. The park was beautiful and the kids loved running around. The pictures came out beautiful and we will treasure them for a long time."
