About your photographer - Jennifer Banks Photography - Bridgewater, Massachusetts | South Shore Photographer
Hi there, I'm Jennifer!
My love for photography happened years ago starting way back in the film days. I documented meaningful parts of my life from family, friends, travel, and nature, you name it. Yes, it was a hobby.
Dad built a darkroom in the house. Developing our own black and white film and creating prints was a ton of fun, especially sharing that time with him. How lucky was I!
In the mid-1990s I took a Slide Photography class at New England School of Photography in Boston. I shot on an old Minolta SLR body and I was hooked. That Minolta went with me when I served in both the Massachusetts Army National Guard (part-time) and Active Duty Navy (full-time) traveling around New England, Europe, and Asia. And I shot with that same Minolta during my thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2003. Yup, all 2,172.6 miles!
I am now using fully digital Sony and Canon cameras. A common phrase said to me often back then and today is, “you take beautiful photos.” I carried and shot with a small Sony digital camera while hiking the entire Pacific Crest Trail between 2018-2019 (2,650 miles, I know, that's a lot of miles) and half of the Continental Divide Trail in 2022 (1,600 miles) Yes, long-distance hiking is another passion of mine. Other hikers could not believe I was carrying "all that extra weight" compared to just using my cell phone camera. My answer was and still is, "larger sensor size for more information and better image quality, especially for prints." A common question is, "what is the best camera to use?" And the answer is, "the one in your hand." Yes, cell phone cameras have their place and have come a long way, but, when quality becomes a priority, a full size camera wins, hands down.
Some of my other photography education includes Elena S. Blair Mastermind, editing in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, landscape photography, family photography, newborn photography, and school photography. I love to learn new techniques, skills, lighting, poses: the learning truly never stops.
I believe in capturing the love, connection, fun and joy of your families and newborns. I believe in the importance of family photography. I look back at the family photos my parents took and they are absolute treasures.
Photography is an art form and I love creating beautiful photos especially of families, newborns, high school seniors, and pets.
I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist since 2008. I am very comfortable working close to people and making my patients feel comfortable as well. These skills definitely transfer over to photography. I understand not everyone is relaxed in front of a camera. No worries, I'm here to help.
I am married to my wonderful husband, Steve. We love outdoor activities, especially kayaking, camping, and hiking. In June 2024 we adopted 2 highly bonded, super lovable kittens, brothers, Cheddar and Brie.
I can't wait to be your photographer to capture your love, connection, fun and joy!
