How to Dress for School Photo Day | Bridgewater, Massachusetts School Photographer
Fine Art School Portrait day is exciting! Here at Jennifer Banks Photography my goal is to make your child's photo day a huge success! So you may be asking, "what should my child wear?" I am happy to guide you with several tips and suggestions on what your little one's attire should be and what to avoid.
The photos will be taken from the shoulders up with a black background.
Simple is best!
Solid muted colors such as earth tones or jewel tones work best. They will produce a clean and classic look to ensure focus stays on your kiddo's beautiful face.
Please do not wear bright neon colors. Do wear solid earth tones.
Bright neon colors will reflect back onto your child's face causing a hue on their chin and neck, not to mention they overpower the frame. AGAIN, PLEASE AVOID BRIGHT NEON COLORS!
Please do not wear company logos or loud graphic patterns. Do wear simple subtle prints.
Company logos may be trendy but they will lead the viewer's eyes away from your child's face.
Loud graphic patterns distract from the main focus.
Please do not wear solid black.
Solid black will blend in with the black background creating the "floating head" effect.
Keep hair neat and tidy and hair accessories simple.
Basic small plain barrettes or thin headbands work well.
Please avoid large hair bows, as cute as they may be, they tend to distract from your child's beautiful face.
Siblings
Coordinate their tops. Avoid matching.
Please do not wear hats or hoodies.
Both hats and hoodies will cause a shadow on the face. If your child chooses to wear a ball cap or fitted winter hat to school, please have him/her remove it as soon as he/she arrives. If any pressure points on the forehead are present this will allow time for them to dissipate before the photos begin.
Final thoughts:
Photo day is fun! Let your little one help with selecting his/her outfit. Remember photos will be taken front the shoulders up with a black background.
It is a good idea to bring a change of clothes in case there's an accident.
My goal is to capture your child's authentic personality as he/she is right now. I will not force a smile. He/she may choose to be smiley, silly, serious, shy or anywhere in between.
These tips and suggestions will help your Fine Art School Portraits look professional, polished, timeless, and classic for the years to come. I can't wait to photograph your little ones. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
